Courses include
Tri-golf Activator Workshop
A course for teachers, PGA professionals and club volunteers. This course is designed to familiarise individuals with Tri-golf; the equipment, game cards and associated resources. It provides leaders with the knowledge to deliver activities in a structured but fun environment. It is 2-3 hours in duration and is usually delivered within the primary school setting.
JGI Leader/Introducory Coaching Award
Aimed at volunteers wishing to introduce the basics of golf to juniors. This course looks at all aspects of working with groups of children, including motivation, communication and organisation. Participants will be provided with practical information regarding the introduction of basic practices to children as well as delivery strategies, health & safety and planning. On completion of the course participants will be able to deliver holes 1-6 of the JGI coaching programme.
PGA Level 1 Coaching Award
Aimed at junior convenors/organisers, assistant professionals and volunteers. Co-ordinated and delivered by the PGA, this 2-day course is desinged to give an understanding of how to assist in coaching the basics of golf. Topics covered include pitching, putting, chipping, as well as delivery strategies and the planning of training sessions. Participants will be assessed on their coaching technique and rules and theory of the game at the end of the course. PGA Level 1 coaching courses will be held at St. Margarets in September, December, 2007 and January 2008, while Level 2 courses will be held in Febuary and March 2008. Child Protection in Sport
A course for all those working with young people, in particular junior organisers. The workshop will provide guidance on the protection of children and adults, good practice guidelines and information on statutory guidelines. These courses are rolled out through Local Sports Partnership (ROI) or Coaching Northern Ireland. If you do not live in an area with a Sports Partnership, the course can be arranged for you in your club for min. of 10 people. The cost for the course will be determined by the LSP or Coaching NI, course run by JGI will be at a nominal cost. For further information please email info@juniorgolfireland.com
It is important to note that the training courses are designed for volunteers to acquire knowledge of coaching and working with children in a golfing environment. It is not intended that JGI volunteers will take the place of professionals, the courses will provide confidence and competence to volunteers so that they can assist and support the work of the professional.
