The work of JGI

JGI has developed its development plan to guide the work of all those involved with young people in golf. This framework includes:



  1. the continued development of a network of junior friendly golf facilities within each county, called coaching centres. This includes the implementation of a skills based coaching programme by PGA professionals and volunteer coaches.
  2. the implementation of a modified game, (Tri-Golf), through the Irish Sports Council's Buntús programme in a school environment and to golf clubs through a programme of training courses, such as JGI Leader and PGA Level 1
  3. the implementation of 'Golf's' Code of Ethics for Young People and other projects such as the Women in Sport or Tranisation Year Schools Project that will encourage young people to play golf on a regular basis in a safe and fun environment.

Committee

The work of JGI is overseen by a voluntary committee which is made up of representatives from each of the three partner organisations. The committee is assisted in its business by the Director of Development. The current committee is:

Regional Development Officers

The work of JGI is carried out by 4 development officers, Gary Lavery (Ulster), Jennifer Hickey (Munster), Justin O'Byrne (Connaught) and Rory Leonard (Leinster). JGI also has a research student, Irish international player Niamh Kitching who is carrying out the National Junior Survey for JGI.
