Women in Sport Project
Junior Golf Ireland has an ongoing commitment to introducing and developing girls in golf. The Women in Sport project recently completed the final phase of the pilot project, where many 15-17 year olds benefitted from coaching sessions by tour players at the PGA National during the Irish Seniors Open. Some of the girls received further instruction at the Curragh Golf Club and have gone on to obtain membership. It is intended to expand the project to other areas of the country, particularly for transition year females. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the project co-ordinator Niamh Kitching on nkitching@juniorgolfireland.com Pictured are some of the girls receiving instruction at the PGA National.
JGI in primary schools
This year the Buntus Golf Programme expanded to include Meath, Laois, Roscommon, Mayo, Waterford, Fingal and Limerick Local Sport Partnership regions. These introductory 'Tri-golf' workshops are ran by the JGI for Primary School teachers, with the intention of introducing school children to golf. Child-friendly equipment and fun games help to encourage success and connections are then made with local JGI coaching centres where the resident PGA pro can continue to support the child's ability. This school year sees the continuation of Buntus programme, along with its introduction in the remaining Local Sport Partnership regions.
