Junior Girls at Arklow Golf Club loving JGI Coaching Programme
Some months ago, a number of ladies in Arklow Golf Club embarked on supervising and encouraging children between the ages of eight and seventeen years to try their hand at golf. During November and March, between 20 and 25 girls were taken to Ballymoney Driving Range at 7p.m. every Thursday to learn the art of the golf swing and the rudiments of the game.
They enlisted the services of Ciaran Carroll, PGA Professional of Bray Golf Club and were lucky with the assistance of Ballymoney Driving Range who provided unlimited practice balls for a fixed price. The enthusiasm and desire shown by these children is commendable given the miserable wintry conditions they had to endure some nights.
The key was in getting membership within the club after the initial coaching sessions, so the girls could put their new skills to the test. The girls have now all been accommodated as junior members of Arklow Golf Club and we would like to congratulate the club for its vision in this area. Even greater recognition should go to those who braved the girls first day on the course - it snowed!!
Catherine is now delighted with the progress of these girls and they are looking forward to a very fruitful first season at Arklow over the summer months. Speaking at the end of the coaching sessions, Catherine said "We would like to thank Junior Golf Ireland for its splendid contribution. We received beautifully designed and easy to follow handbooks on all aspects of the game which were used as part of the coaching sessions.
"In addition, towels, water bottles and caps were also provided by Junior Golf Ireland and we believe the overall success of the venture can be attributed to the backing we have received from Arklow Golf Club, Junior Golf Ireland and Ballymoney Driving Range".
We wish all these girls the very best of luck with their golf over the coming months and in the many years ahead! If your club would like to emulate Arklow's success please contact us at Junior Golf Ireland.
